Noisy-NeighboursDo you live on a loud and/or busy street?  Is the noise from a barking dog keeping you awake at night?  Do you live near the airport, trolley, or coaster?  Or maybe you just happen to have those very social neighbors…

Well, if you are looking to improve the peace and quiet in your home, look no further!  Coughlin Windows and Doors offers and installs sound control windows and patio doors that are suitable for San Diego’s climate.

What Are My Options for Sound Control Windows in San Diego?

For many homeowners in San Diego, your home still has the original 1/16″ or 1/8″ single pane windows and/or doors installed. Single pane windows and doors do not offer much in noise reduction. Fortunately, simply replacing your old single pane windows and doors with dual pane windows and doors will make a significant improvement! On average, a homeowner can expect about a 50% reduction in noise when replacing single pane windows or doors with dual pane windows or doors.

However, if you are looking for further sound control, then you can choose to add a sound control glass package to your new windows and doors.

What is a Sound Control Glass Package?

Well, I thought you’d never ask!

A sound control glass package is either

A. Adding dis-similar glass thickness in a dual pane window or door sound control windows san diego

OR

B. Adding Laminated glass

Dis-similar….laminated….what???

Allow me to explain.

For most dual pane windows and doors the two panes of glass are the same thickness.  Now, depending on the size of the window or door, the thickness of each pane can range from 1/16″ glass to 1/4″ glass, up to 7/32″ laminated glass.  For the standard glazing package of any new dual pane window or door, the default glass thickness of each pane is set to be the same.  For example 1/16″ and 1/16″ dual pane.  Or, 3/32″ and 3/32″ dual pane.  Or even 1/8″ and 1/8″ dual pane.

You know the saying two is better than one?  Well it is!  That second pane of glass not only helps to insulate your home better, but it’s also reducing sound coming into your home.  As mentioned above, you can further control the sound by adding a dis-similar glass package.   For instance, you can request that your new windows and doors have an 1/8″ and 3/16″ sound control glass package added.  Introducing a thicker pane of glass significantly reduces and dampens sound waves.

For a more in-depth and comprehensive understanding please visit http://www.stcratings.com/rules.html

sound control windows san diegoOn average, a single pane window achieves an STC rating of approximately 18-20.  With regards to STC ratings, the higher the number, the better.  For most dual pane windows, STC ratings average 27-30.  With the upgraded glass sound package, a dual pane window with dis-similar glass can achieve an STC of 32-35.  Additionally, if you opt to have
laminated 7/32″ glass added you get better sound control and security/safety glass. Laminated glass is the same glass used in car windshields.  Essentially, it is two panes of glass, held together with a resin.  It is designed to not come apart when broken.  Laminated glass is also called impact resistant glass.
